Our story

IDRON started with a shared belief: water is life, and every drop matters. Across the Mediterranean, rural communities face growing challenges from climate change—scarce water resources, unpredictable weather, and pressure on agriculture. These issues threaten not only crops but the very fabric of rural economies and traditions.
To respond, twelve partners from ten countries joined forces. Universities, regional authorities, research centers, NGOs, and development agencies came together with one mission: to create smarter, sustainable solutions for water management. By blending advanced technologies like IoT, AI, and biosensors with traditional practices such as rainwater harvesting, we aim to build resilience and secure water for future generations.
IDRON is more than a project—it’s a movement of collaboration and solidarity. Through eight pilot sites and a vibrant Living Lab network, we are proving that innovation and cooperation can overcome even the toughest challenges. Together, we are shaping a greener, climate-resilient Mediterranean where communities thrive and nature is respected.
